The liver is a vital and hardworking organ. Its key job is detoxification - not just environmental toxins but also excess hormones. As we learned in last week’s post, our hormone levels fluctuate throughout the month. The liver is essential in helping flush excess estrogen from our bodies. When it’s working overtime to eliminate harmful external toxins it has less capacity to flush excess hormones. Excess hormones create all kinds of unwanted symptoms: PMS, infertility, fibroids, late onset disease, etc.
We are exposed to toxins everyday in our…

Etc.!
Don’t rely on governments or other regulatory bodies when it comes to this topic!

Frankly, it’s unfair.
It should not be so hard (and expensive💸) to live our lives free from harmful pesticides, herbicides, “forever chemicals”, antibiotics, heavy metals, microplastics, added hormones, etc. . But it is - and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.
Here are some actions you can take:
🍏Buy organic food whenever possible
🌿Switch to non-toxic plant-based cleaning products
🧴Opt for beauty products without parabens, phthalates and fragrance
🚫Avoid plastic packaging and switch to glass, stainless steel and wood
💧Drink filtered water (not all filters are created equal so do your research!)
How are we supposed to know which products are safe?
Luckily, there are some great resources out there that have simplified the process and made responsible shopping easier. My favorite is the Environmental Working Group (EWG). With their app 🤳 you can scan beauty product barcodes and receive a rating empowering you to make informed purchases. (For those of you outside the US you can search a product by visiting their website through your browser.) EWG also has guides for cleaning products, tap water, sunscreen, mattresses, baby products, etc.
I know this information can be overwhelming! I invite you to take it slow and swap out products one at a time as they run out. What’s the first swap you’re going to make? I’d love to hear in the comments or via DM!
Warm regards,
Donelle
Was just listening to a podcast on pfas the other day. Disturbing to say the least. I’m definitely replacing all my food storage containers now!
