Inflammation
Acute vs. chronic
You’ve probably heard the term “inflammation” before but what does it actually mean? Inflammation is a normal and healthy bodily response to infection or injury. It’s a protective mechanism that promotes healing ✅. This is inflammation in the acute sense and happens for example when you catch a cold 🤧 or sprain your ankle 🩼. Chronic inflammation on the other hand is long term and can lead to a variety of health issues. When inflammation is present in the body for extended periods of time it can cause damage to otherwise healthy cells, tissues, and organs 🥵.
Causes of chronic inflammation
🎢 Poor blood sugar control
🔥 Gut dysbiosis
🥱 Poor sleep
🍽️ Nutrient deficiencies
☣️ Toxin exposure
These are just a handful of common causes of chronic inflammation that I see regularly when working with clients.
Symptoms of chronic inflammation
💩 Digestive issues
😫 Joint pain
🥱 Fatigue
🤧 Frequent illness
🥵 Skin issues
🎢 Unstable mood
😶🌫️ Brain fog
These causes and symptoms of chronic inflammation may seem vague but they should not be ignored! In the long term they can lead to larger health issues such as autoimmune disease, heart disease, Alzheimer's, cancer, etc. A thorough health history and testing can be conducted to determine if you suffer from chronic inflammation. Luckily it can be addressed through diet and lifestyle changes and supported with supplementation.
Warm regards,
